Searching Drew Pearson's Washington Merry-Go-Round collection

There are three ways to find documents in this collection:

browsing by title
browsing by date

Keyword Searching

To search by keyword, enter words or phrases in the box and click "begin search."

Example: mccarthy will pull up documents on Joe McCarthy, McCarthyism, and Charlie McCarthy.

Example: mccarthy witch hunt will pull up documents about Joe McCarthy's congressional witch hunts in the 1950's.

Use "set preferences" to refine or expand your searches. "Ignore word endings" broadens your search, and "whole word must match" narrows your search. Choose either option and click "set preferences," then start your search. To switch options, choose the other preference and click "set preferences," then run your search again.

mccarthy (with "ignore word endings") will pull up documents about mccarthy, joe mccarthy, mccarthyism

mccarthy (with "whole word must match") will pull up documents only with the word "mccarthy"

The search engine is not case-sensitive, so you don't have to capitalize intials or intial letters. Phrase searching with quotations (" ") is not supported, nor is Boolean searching (joining terms with AND, OR, and NOT to refine searching).

Browse by Titles

To browse by titles, click on "Titles" from any search page. They are arranged alphabetically.

Note: Many titles begin with "The Daily Washington Merry-Go-Round," or "The Weekly Washington Merry-Go-Round." Consider this when searching for documents by title that begin with "D," "T," or "W."

Browse by Dates

To browse by date, click on "Dates" from any search page. Document dates are arranged chronologically from 1932 - 1952.
